No, you don’t look “rebellious”

Chris and I were enjoying a very well constructed mocha yesterday while sitting outside of the Blue Heron and we noticed another pet peeve of mine, the Honda Gold Wing “motorcycle.” For those of you unaware with the Gold Wing here’s a picture of two them:

An example of what motorcycling is not. I decided to conceal the identity of these individuals in order to prevent further embarrassment for them. Posted by Hello

Now if you notice, it’s not the typical motorcycle, in fact I don’t even consider it a motorcycle. It’s of an embarrassment on wheels to the person operating it. Look at that thing! There are so many things that aren’t right about those pictures I don’t know where to begin. First of all, this machine completely defeats the purpose of motorcycling, which is just roaming free, just you and the road. It’s not you and your partner you can talk to on a microphone hauling a trailer full of crap. A trailer! Motorcycles should never have trailers! If these people actually consider themselves rebellious then they need to stop sniffing the glue they were inhaling when they were buying these things. According to the Honda website, this year’s model of the Gold Wing can go for $18,599! After buying your trailer, your helmets with microphones and your matching Harley Davidson jackets for you and your riding partner you could of easily bought a Ford Taurus, which in the end has just about the same purpose of the Gold Wing only with out the bugs flying at your head. After ranting about this to Chris for a while he suggested “Well maybe they just wanted to feel free?” If they really want to get a feeling of freedom while on the road then take that Ford Taurus you just bought and knock out the wind shield. There you go, your freedom on the road.

So what is the ideal way of motorcycling? I think it can be best summed up by this picture:

If a loved one is considering buying this thing, please for the sake of their pride talk them out of it.
